Intercalary meristem are left out parts of apical meristem which come to lie in between areas of permanent tissues. They may lie above the node (e. g. mint), below the node (e. g., Pinus). Intercalary meristems take part in longitudinal growth of internodes and leaves. They bring about vertical growth in fallen stems ofcereals and grasses.
