1) Intercalary Meristem

⇒ It is a type of meristem whose growth takes place between the regions of permanent tissue.

⇒ This type of tissue helps to maximise the length of the internode.

⇒ It is located in monocots , grass and pines.

2) Difference between Intercalary Meristem and Lateral Meristem.

INTERCALARY MERISTEM :-

  • It is generally present at the lower part of leaves or at internodes.
  • The main role of Intercalary Meristem is to enlarge the length of internodes.
  • It is classified as Primary Meristem.

LATERAL MERISTEM :-

  • It is located on the Lateral Side ( as the name suggests ) of the root and stem.
  • It's main role is maximize the width of the plant.
  • It is classified as Secondary Meristem.
