Intercropping is a cropping practice in which multiple crops are grown in proximity.

The aim of intercropping is to produce large amount of yield on small piece of land utilizing the natural resources and biological processes which are wasted when single crop is grown.

The selection of the crops is done in such a way that two crops shouldn’t fight for nutrients.

intercropping is growing two or more crops simultaneously on the same field in a definite pattern. A few rows of one crop alternate with a few rows of a second crop for example, soyabean + Maize or finger millet (bazra)+cowpea (lobia). The crops are selected such that their nutrient requirement are different. This ensures maximum utilisation of the nutrients supplied, and also prevent pests and diseases from spreading to all plants belonging to one crop in a field this way both crops can give better returns.
