Interference simply means interfering. So, in a wave motion ,interference means two or more waves interfering with each other to make a resultant wave . And we should know that interferece of waves occur only when they have same source because those initial waves which are about to interfere should have constant phase difference or 0 phase difference. Thats why two torch placed opposite to each other doesnot give interference . Similarly, in the case when two friends sitting face-to-face speak, those sound waves don't interfere simply because their phase difference keeps on changing.
