intermolecular forces are the forces which exist between molecules depending upon how strong or weak intermolecular forces are there are three States of matter the states of matter are solid liquid and gases in gaseous state intermolecular forces are the weakest where as in solid strongest intermolecular forces exist and liquid state the extent of intermolecular forces is in between solids and gases state of matter
