Bud found inside of a stem is called internal budding and a bud found outside the stem is called external budding.

Formation of a bud inside the parental organism is called internal budding. It is seen in sponging.

If the bud forms on the outside of the organism's body, it is called external budding. It is seen mostly in Hydra.

There are 2 types of external budding. Chain budding is seen in Yeast and zooids colony budding is seen in Scypha.
