The international system of numeration is followed by most of the countries of the world. In this system also, a number is split up into groups or periods. We start from the extreme right digit of the number to form the groups. The groups are called ones, thousands, millions and billions. The ones in turn are split up into hundreds, tens and units. The first three digits on the extreme right form a group of ones which are in turn split into hundreds, tens and units. The second group of next three digits on the left of the group of ones form the group of thousands which is further split up into thousands ten thousands and hundred thousands. The third group of next three digits on the left of the group of thousands form the group of millions. Three digits on the left of the group of millions form a group of billions which is split up into billions, ten billions and hundred billions.
Example:-
The number ‘ Two core ninety lakh fifty five thousand eight hundred twenty seven’ can be written in Indian system of numeration as 2,90,55,827
This can be written in the international system of numeration as
M = 29
HTh = 055
H= 8
T= 2
0 = 7
This is read as ‘Twenty nine million fifty five thousand eight hundred twenty seven’.
