Internuclear axis

  • The line which acts as like a bridge between the nuclei of atoms of the different elements present in a molecule is called an internuclear axis.
  • It is also called a bond axis which gives clear information about the location of different nuclei in a molecule.
  • If the electron density is above and below of bond axis it leads to the formation of the pi-pi bond.
  • On the other hand, if it is in symmetry it leads to the formation of the sigma bond.
