Integuments, micropyle and chalaza

An integument is a protective layer of cells surrounding the ovule.

Gymnosperms have one whereas Angiosperms have two integuments.

The caruncle, also called elaiosome, is an external structure that covers the micropylar region in the seed of species belonging to the Euphorbiaceae Family.
