Intracellular digestion is described as the process of digestion that takes place inside a cell utilizing cellular enzymes.
Explanation:
- In case of unicellular organisms, the cells phagocytize a substance that seems to be food to that cell. It is then taken within a fold of cell membrane called as primary lysosome.
- Lysosomal enzymes are then secreted into the lysosome that contains a variety of amylase, lipase, proteases, DNase, etc which are thereby used indigestion.
- Then, the lysosome is converted into secondary lysosome which is then pushed towards the cell membrane waiting for its excretion. Amoeba, paramecium, etc use this type of digestion.
