Ionic bond is also called electrovalent bond.Atoms of metallic elements that have 1,2 or 3 valence electrons can lose electron(s) to atom of non-metallic elements, which have 5,6 or 7 electrons respectively in their outermost shell and thereby forming an electrovalent compound

The cation and the anion being oppositely charged attract each other and form a chemical bond.Since this chemical bond formation is due to the electrostatic force of attraction between a cation & an anion,it is called an electrovalent (or an ionic) bond

Bonds formed between metal and non-metal are ionic bond
