An ionic form is between a metal and non metal. The metals have positive charge as they lose electrons to give them to non-metals who have negative charge. In the formula of a compound also, the symbol of metals are always written first and then that of non-metals.
For example- Sodium chloride (NaCl)
Here Na is written first as it's a metal and chlorine is written after that indicating its non metallic property.
Thanks. I hope it helped you.

Explanation:
Ionic bonds form when a nonmetal and a metal exchange electrons, while covalent bonds form when electrons are shared between two nonmetals. An ionic bond is a type of chemical bond formed through an electrostatic attraction between two oppositely charged ions.
