The ionic strength is half (because we add anions and cations) of the molarities of the ions times their charge squared.

● Ionic strength of the solution is known as the function of all Ion present in solution.

So for calculating the Ionic strength of 0.2 M Na2HPO4

● I = ∑cîzî²

I = 1/2 [0.2M x 2 x 1² + 0.2M x 1 x (-2)²]

=1/2 [0.4 + 0.8]

=1/2 [1.2]

= 0.6 M

● Hence Ionic strength = 0.6 M.

Hope this helps U!
