In physics and chemistry, ionization energy or ionisation energy, denoted Eᵢ, is the minimum amount of energy required to remove the most loosely bound electron, the valence electron, of an isolated neutral gaseous atom or molecule.

Ionisation energy :-

→The term ionisation energy (IE) is defined as the energy that is required to remove the outer electron of an atom or molecule.

→The tendency to lose the outer electron is directly correlated to the ionisation energy – the lower the ionisation energy, the easier the removal ofthe electron.

→Within the group ofalkali metals, the ionisation energy for the removal ofthe outer electron decreases as a result ofthe increasing distance ofthis electron from the nucleus.
