what is ironical about the ending of the story 'letter to god'
Answers
The irony is that the same postoffice workers who gathered a portion of Lencho's request were accused of being thieves.
The postman in the story "A Letter to God" was of a very humble and kind in nature. When he saw that a person had written a letter addressing to the God he read the letter and decided to help the innocent person. He very well knew that there is no address of God to which he will deliver Lencho's letter. Hence he decided to not let Lencho's emotions down and help him by contributing money. He asked all the employees to contribute some money and he also contributed to give it to Lencho.
Lencho became sad when he didn't receive the total amount of money in the envelope. He hoped that God will be there to help him. When he found that the total amount was not in the envelope he wrote another letter to God requesting him that next time he should give money directly to him and not through the post as the people working in the post office are corrupt and had bad eyes on the money.
Lencho called the post office employees "a bunch of crooks" because he thought that they have taken half of the money which God had send to him.
