the irony of poet of making fun of her mother's false teeth is that when the poet was young , she innocently made fun of her mother's false teeth when her mother kept them in water at night . but now , after eating too much toffees, sweet sticky food and not taking proper care of her teeth , her teeth are now decayed too . so , now the act of teasing her mother , for having false teeth was actually teasing her now . she says that , " now comes the reckonin' , it's me they are beckonin' " which means that the moment she laughed at her mother's false teeth , was now actually a moment for her to be laughed at . the lines mean that now comes the time of consideration when she lies in old dentist's chair , she reconsiders eating toffees and wasting her shillings and she says that it's her that her mother's false teeth are teasing now .
