Alkane:

  • Alkanes are, basically, one of the classification terms for hydrocarbons. Alkanes are the hydrocarbons, containing only Carbon and Hydrogen atoms, linked to each other only via a single bond, more technically, they're linked to each other via sigma bonds only and there's no presence of a pi/double bond.
  • They are also called Saturated Hydrocarbons.
  • Their general chemical formula is given by: C(x)H(2x+2). Where x is the number of carbon atoms present in the hydrocarbon.

Alkene:

  • Alkenes are the hydrocarbons in which carbon atoms are linked via both single bonds and double bonds.
  • Their general chemical formula is given by: C(x)H(2x).

Alkyne:

  • Alkyne are the hydrocarbons wherein carbon atoms are linked only through single bonds and triple bonds.
  • Their general chemical formula is given by: C(x)H(2x-2).

★ Alkynes and Alkenes are also called Unsaturated Hydrocarbons.
