Mitochondria is known as the power house of cell.

Functions:-

(i) They are the sites of cellular respiration.

(ii) They use molicular oxygen from air to oxidise carbohydrate and fat present in the cell to carbon dioxide and water vapor.

(iii) The process of oxidation releases energy. A portion of this energy is used from Adenosine Trisphosphate (ATP). So, mitochondria is known as powerhouse of cell.
