Hey!!
ISOMERS: The elements having same molecular formula but different chemical structures are known as isomers.
TYPES: isomers can mainly be categorised 2 types as:
1).Structural isomers :these are further splitted in the categories as listed. Structural isomerism can quickly get out of hand in terms of number of possible isomers.
*Chain isomers : are molecules with same molecular formula but different arrangement of carbon atoms.
*Position isomers : are based on the movement of a functional group.
*Functional isomers :molecular formula is same but the type of functional group gets changed.
2).Stereoisomerism :
* Geometric isomerism: They usually (although not always) contain a chiral centre – this is a carbon atom, with four different atoms (or groups of atoms) attached to it.
* Optical isomerism: They usually (although not always) contain a chiral centre – this is a carbon atom, with four different atoms (or groups of atoms) attached to it.
