Two nuclides are isotones if they have the same neutron number N, but different proton number Z.

⏩Nuclear species with same no. of neutrons ( neutral charge ) in the nucleus and different no. of proton ( positive charge ) are called isotones of that element.
⏩For example carbon-13 and boron-12 both nuclei contain 7 neutrons and so are known as isotones.
⏩They are especially used for changing the chemical nature of a formula.
