Explanation:

Janani Suraksha Yojana was launched on 12th April 2005. It is a scheme which is sponsored by the Central Government for the poor pregnant women with the aim of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality through institutional delivery. The yojana provides with cash assistance both at the time of delivery as well as post delivery. The scheme is being viewed as Accredited Social Health Activist between the Government and pregnant women.

The scheme is directed towards certain states having low institutional delivery rates. Some these states are Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand,Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Orissa. These states are referred as Low Performing States (LPS) while the balance states are referred as High Performing states (HPS)

Hope this helps.
