Joan Lexau is a writer that brings out the issues of environment and surroundings in his story. Here in 'Me and the Ecology' he spreads awareness through Jim.

Jim witnessed Mr. William burning the leaves in his backyard. Unnecessary burning causes pollution to the environment which Jim didn't like. Jim advised Mr. Williams that instead of burning the leaves and garbage, he could make a compost out of it. He could use this compost for the garden. Mr. William does not agree to it since he feels that the compost brings nose pollution due to the smell. Jim feels sad after hearing Mr. Williams's response to his advice.
