Johnsy had pneumonia, more over she was losing her hope to live. Afterwards, she was very much depressed and her illness was also became worse. Pneumonia would have been cured by medicines but she was not willing to live. She was watching the ivy-creeper climb up the brick wall out of a window which was shedding its leaves. Johnsy was waiting for the last leaf to fall and believed that when it will fall, she will die.
