It is the duty of the supreme court to uphold the sanctity of the constitution. It can review a Center or State law to establish its legality or otherwise. this is known as the judicial review of the Supreme Court
if any law violets the constitution it can declare it null or void (ultra-virus)
however unlike the Supreme Court of USA it doesn't step in unless a person aggreived by such laws calls for the Court for redress
