JGA is a special sensitive region formed by cellular modifications in the distal convoluted tubule and the afferent arteriole at the location of their contact. The JGA becomes active when there is decrease in renal blood pressure or decrease in GFR. It promotes release of renin from juxtaglomerular cells. This renin converts inactive protein angiotensinogen into peptide angiotensin.
