The unique feature of Kanchan Arsenic Filter or KAF soil is that it consists of an extra layer of nails which are not galvanized and they are present at the filter, in its diffuser basin.

When the iron nails are exposed to moisture of the air, a chemical compound called rust (ferric hydroxide) is formed.

Arsenic that is present in enormous amount in the groundwater gets attached to the surface of the ferric hydroxide.
