                                   KARYOKINESIS

⇒ Karyokinesis : It is a process in which nucleus is divided into two during cell division is called karyokinesis.

                                         STAGE OF KARYOKINESIS

  • Prophase : After interphase, prophase comes, which is the first and longest stage of mitosis. Longitudinal splitting or division of each chromosomes into two sister chromatids. Nuclear membrane break down and nucleolus disappear. Spindle is also formed at late prophase.

  • Metaphase : Due to attachment of spindle fibers at the centromere of chromosomes, the chromosomes are arranged in the center or equator due to their active movement.

  • Anaphase : This is the shortest stage. Chromosomes divide at the point of centromere and thus two sister chromatids are formed. These sister chromatides move towards the opposite poles of spindle.

  • Telophase : Chromosomes reach opposite poles and nuclear membrane reappear around each group of chromosomes, this forming two daughter nuclei.
