Karyokinesis is the division of the nucleus, and is followed by Cytokinesis, the division of the cell cytoplasm.
Karyokinesis is also called as indirect nuclear division, where the nucleus passes through a sequence of events leading to the formation of two daughter nuclei.
The four phases of Karyokinesis are:
1.Prophase (Greek term; meaning ‘Before’)
2.Metaphase (Greek term; μετά, "adjacent" and φάσις, "stage")
3.Anaphase (Latin; meaning ‘Away’)
4.Telophase (Greek; meaning ‘End’)
