Khadins are long earthen embankments down the slope of catchment areas which contains run off water. A dug well is often located behind the embankment to store extra run off if it has overflow the embankment, slowly the stored water percolates down into ground.

It is related to conservation of environment by the following:

1. Ground water level increases.

2. The area can be used to grow

crops and other natural vegetation.

3. The water does not evaporate, but

spreads out to recharge Wells and

provides moisture for vegetation

over a wide area.

4. Water is from breeding of

mosquitoes which usually happens

with stagnant water collected in

artificial ponds.

5. It is protected from contamination

by human and animal waste.
