Hey,
Friend,
● KHILAFAT AGITATION
Gandhiji felt the need to launch a more broad based movement was possible without bringing the Hindus and Muslims together. One way of doing this was to take up the khilafat issue.
The khilafat agitation was an opportunity for Gandhiji to reunite the Hindus and Muslims together. In February 1920, Gandhiji suggested to khilafat commitee to adopt a programme of non - violent Non cooperation Movement. The khilafat Commitee unanimously accepted the suggestion of Non cooperation movement in support of khilafat and Swaraj.
● NON COOPERATION MOVEMENT....
These movements often did not strictly adhere to the programme of non cooperation or even to the policy of non violence.
●ACHIEVEMENTS OF NON-COOPERATION MOVEMENT.....
•The movement contributed to the awakening of the masses to economic problem and their political cause, i. e. Imperialism.
•Ordinary people, men and women, rich and poor showed willingness and ability to endure hardships and punishments.
•People achieved a new sense of confidence where -in lay the strength of the movement.
●CALLING OF NON COOPERATION MOVEMENT....
The movement was gaining sucess. IN the mean time, it took a violent turn after the pics fired at Chauri Chaura in Uttarpradesh. In a sudden burst of anger, the demonstrators set fire to a nearby police station, burning 22 policemen to death. Gandhiji immediately called off the movement. He felt that people have to be trained in non violence before they could be ready for mass struggle.
Hope this will help you.....
