Answer:

There is nothing like Khalifa movement rather is is the Khilafat Movement which took place during the Non Cooperation Movement to safeguard the and protect the Khalifa's temporal powers which as rumoured were taken away by the Britishers after the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in the World War 1. A Khilafat Committee was established in Bombay in late 1919. A series of Young Muslim leaders like Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali began discussing the possibilities of a United mass action against the Britishers with Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji saw this as an opportunity to unite the Hindus and Muslims together for one cause and fight against the Britishers . This, The Khilafat Movement was corporated into the Non Cooperation Movement and a mass satyagraha was planned. Rallies were organised all over India and Popular public support was gained by both Gandhiji and Shaukat Ali as they toured extensively. The Khilafat Movement lasted from (1919-1924) and the Non Cooperation Movement got a larger base after the inclusion of Muslims. The Non Cooperation Movement later proved to be one of the biggest mass actions against the British. It began with social boycott of government organizations.

Background of the Khilafat Movement

After the loss of the Ottoman Empire in WW1, It was rumoured that the Britishers were going to treat the Caliph in a harsh manner and that he would lose all his powers and the Ottoman Empire will be divided. Although it was true and the division happened, The Khilafat Movement caused the Muslims to raise their voice.
