the Khilafat movement was an agitation by Indian Muslims allied with Indian Nationalist to pressure the British government to preserve the authority of the Ottoman Sultan as caliph of Islam after world war I while seemingly Pan Islamic , the movement was primary a means of achieving Pan Indian Muslim political.

KHILAFAT MOVEMENT !

  • The Sultan of Turkey was the Khalifa , Chief religious priest of Muslims. He was not given good treatment after the world war.

  • So Indian Muslims started a movement known as Khilafat movement.

  • Gandhiji fully supported it. He organized a national movement for Khilafat. His aim was Hindu-Muslim Unity. The movement came to an end because of revolution in Turkey and Non-Cooperation movement.
