Exfoliation is involved in the process of all facials.
At medical spas, it is involved during microdermabrasion or chemical peels.
The removal of dead skin cells (oldest) from the surface (outermost) of the skin is known as exfoliation.

WHAT IS EXFOLIATION? (ACCORDING TO GEOGRAPHY):
Exfoliation is the term used to define the weathering or the removal of the succesive thin layers(or sheets or shells ) of massive rocks
SO WHY IS A TYPE OF WEATHERING CALLED AS EXFOLIATION?
In the process of exfoliation the layers of the rock peel off as sheets instead of falling apart like grains of rock pieces
EXFOLIATION TYPES:
a.)Large-scale exfoliation------------due to the mechanics of gravity on a curved surface
b.)small-scale exfoliation---------------due to chemical weathering.
HOW DOES EXFOLIATION TAKES PLACE:
The outer layers expand the most, cracks, or sheet joints, develop that parallel the curved outer surface of the rock. Sheet joints become surfaces along which curved pieces of rock break loose, exposing a new surface. This process is called exfoliation.
PROCESS OF EXFOLIATION:
Exfoliation. If a large intrusion is brought to the surface through tectonic uplift and the erosion of overlying rocks, the confining pressure above the intrusion has been released, but the pressure underneath is still being exerted, forcing the rock to expand. This process is called unloading
HENCE THE PROCESS IS CALLED UNLOADING.
