What is KOh? What is the purpose of using KOH in the experiment to show Co2 in necessary for photosynthesis?

Koh (potassium hydroxide) has a property to absorb CO2 ....it is used in this experiment to let us observe that CO2 is necessary for photosynthesis....it absorbs Co2.....
