Lanthanoid contraction.. an important topic board as well as competive exam.. Lanthanoid contraction is greater then expected decrease in the ionic radii of the element in the lanthanoid series from atomic number 57 to 71. This results in smaller then otherwise expected ionic radii for the subsequent element.
