The standard temperature lapse rate is the rate at which we expect air to be colder, the higher we go. The rate is about 2 Fahrenheit degrees per 1000 feet of altitude, which coincidentally happens to be about 1 Celsius degree per 100 meters.

Lapse rate is the rate at which Earth's atmospheric temperature decreases with an increase in altitude ,or increases with the decrease in altitude.
