Latching Current (IL):
It is the minimum value of anode current required to keep SCR in conducting state even after removal of Gate pulse.
Holding Current (IH):
It is minimum value of anode current below which SCR can not maintain current through it and turns Off.
Always IL>IH
Latching current >Holding current
In latching the gap in the magnetic circuit start to reduce until the moving armature gets in contact with the electromagnet pole.
The energy of the magnetic circuit is concentrated in the gap volume (very high reluctance), in holding state the gap is reduced and then holds less energy. Consequently latching current is greater than holding current. You need a more intense magnetic field to attract a distant ferrous object.
