When something is heated, the temperature remains the same, because of the later heat of the object. The heat produced is used to break down water molecules. Therefore, the thermometer doesn't change the temperature

Latent means the hidden. The characteristics amount of energy absorbed on released by a substance during the change in physical state that occurs without changing its temperature is known as latent heat
