lateral meristem is found on the lateral sides of the stem. it is responsible for increase in the diameter {girth} of the plants rooand stem. the vascular cambium{lies withen the vascular bundles} and the cork cambium{lies beneath the bark of a tree} are examples of lateral meristem. the activiy of cambium brings about secondary growth{increase in girth} in pants
