It is called as “Lateral” meristem because it helps the plant to grow laterally. The lateral meristem produces nutrients that help in the growth of the plant and in producing new outer layers. The cork cambium replaces the plant’s outer layer and the vascular cambium helps in transporting water and nutrients to the growing
