Preet010: Basically we can if net external force on the system is zero then momentum is conserved or we can say that momentum is conserved when center of mass (COM) of the system is at rest, i.e velocity of COM is zero. I hope i cleared it.

conservation of momentum is the fundamental law of physics which states that the momentum of the object is constant if there is no external force acting on it
