Law of independent assortment is the third law of inheritance. This states that a gene is inherited independently and not mixed.

For example

In the Mendel experiment of tall and short pea plant, We got all tall in F1 generation and 1 short in F2 generation. If the traits were mixed we would have got medium sized plants. Hence traits are inherited independently

Answer:

Mendelian inheritance is a type of biological inheritance that follows the principles originally proposed by Gregor Mendel in 1865 and 1866, re-discovered in 1900 and popularized by William Bateson. These principles were initially controversial. When Mendel's theories were integrated with the Boveri–Sutton chromosome theory of inheritance by Thomas Hunt Morgan in 1915, they became the core of classical genetics.
