Law of inertia

According to this law, any body is unable to change its state of motion or speed until it experience external force, the body wants to remain at its previous state of motion.

Example, When we shake tree branches, the leaves want to remain at rest while branches in motion. This results in dettaching of leaves from branches

Answer

According to Law of Inertia an object at rest remains at rest and a object in motion remains in uniform motion until it is expelled by an external force to change its state of rest or of motion. Example:

When you beat a carpet the carpet comes in motion while the dust particles remains in its state of Inertia and hence fall apart from the carpet.
