The principles that govern heredity were discovered by a monk named Gregor Mendel in the 1860s. One of these principles, now called Mendel'sLaw of Segregation, states that allele pairs separate or segregateduring gamete formation, and randomly unite at fertilization.

Answer:

during gamete formation the allels for each gene segregate from each other so that each gamete carries only one allele for each gene. Genes of different traits can segregate independently during the formation of gametes.
