law of segregation states that, "when a pair of contrasting factor or genes or allelomorphs are brought together in a heterozygotes or hybrids, the two members of the allelic pair remain together without mixing and when gametes are fromed the two gametes separate out, and then enter into the each gamete".

the principle, originated by Gregor Mendel, stating that during the production of gametes the two copies of each hereditary factor segregate so that offspring acquire one factor from each parent. Expand. Also called Mendel's first law, Mendel's law. Origin of law of segregation.
