ANSWER
A gamete may carry either the dominant or the recessive factor but not both as we find in individuals. This is why it is called either as 'principle of segregation' or as 'law of purity of gametes.

Hey mate ... Here's ur answer ... I'll tell u in a simple language and not in a bookish language bcoz even i faced problems when i was trying to cram it so i understood it this way .....

law of segregation states that during the fusion of two gametes the genes ... they are inherited by both father and mother and they can't come as whole that means they can't come as 46 pair from father and 46 from mother .... so they have to separate or u can say that they have to segregate in order to come in a no. of 23 - 23 chromosomes each ... This iswhat the law og segregation states that during the fusion the genes or the chromosomes ... they segregate from each other .... I hope i was able to help u .....

now the second is purity of genes ... I will use simple langusge for this too ....

if u look at the term purity of genes we come to know that it is something about the pure genes and when is it possible ? ..... only when there isn't any mixing of the foreign or exotic gene . It means that the genes are pure and they donot contain any mixing . This happens in the case of autogamy ..... The flower shed their anther on the respective flower on ly and in the case of geitonogamy ... bcoz the genes are same throughout the plant ....

I gave my best ... hope u'll understand ....
