Layering has evolved as a common means of vegetative propagation of numerous species in natural environments. Layering is also utilized by horticulturists to propagate desirable plants. Natural layering typically occurs when a branch touches the ground, whereupon it produces adventitious roots !

Types of Layering:

4) Compound or serpentine layering

A branch of plant is pulled towards the ground and a part of it is covered with moist soil leaving the tip of branch exposed above the ground.After some time new root develops from the part of branch buried in the soil.The branch is then cut off from parent plant.
