\bigstar Answer:

⇒ Lead storage battery is an important secondary cell.

⇒ It is commonly used in automobiles and inverters

⇒ It consists of lead anode and grid of lead lead packeted with PbO₂ as cathode

⇒ 38 % of Sulphuric acid (H₂SO₄) is used as an electrolyte

→ A secondary cell after use can be recharged by passing electric current in opposite direction so that it can be used again.

→ It can be recharged number of times

The cell reaction when the battery is in use

Anode:

\sf Pb + SO_4^-2 \implies PbSO_4 +2e^-

Cathode:

\sf PbO_2+ SO_4^-2+4H^+ + 2e^- \implies PbSO_4 + 2H_2O

The Overall cell reaction consisting of cathode and anode is

\sf Pb+PbO_2+2H_2SO_4 \implies 2PbSO_4+ 2H_2O

⇒ On charging the battery the reaction is reversed and PbSO₄ on anode and cathode is converted into Pb and PbO₂, respectively.

→ Other examples for Secondary cell is Nickel-Cadmium cell
