VENATION - DEFINITION

The arrangement of veins and veinlets on the lamina of a leaf is called venation.

Their important function is to conduct water through xylem, provide channel for translocation of organic nutrients and conduction of minerals.

TYPES OF VENATION - DEFINITION

Venation is an arrangement of veins in the tissue of leaves or in the wing of an insect. Furcate venation, Reticulate and Parallel are the types of Venation.

 

Reticulate: Veinlets form a network as in leaves of dicotyledonous plants (china rose, peepul). 

Parallel: Veins are parallel to each other as in leaves of monocotyledonous plants (grass, maize, sugarcane).

Furcate venation: Veins branch dichotomously
