What is LED ?

A light emitting diode (LED) is a forward biased p-n junction diode That emits visible light when energized. LED work on the phenomenon of electroluminescence.

Why is led used for testing current ?

Because in liquids ,the electricity passes is not too much high to light up a bulb . And an LED has ability to glow even if the current is low, that's why LED is used to test electrical conductivity in liquids.
